Immunology & Immunoscience
Central tolerance, and the organ that maintains it.
Department Family: Immune, Musculoskeletal & Regenerative Medicine
Immunosenescence, autoimmune disease, and the restoration of immune competence.
The work centres on the thymus — where immune cells are selected and self-reactive clones removed, and whose decline underlies both the infection risk and the autoimmune drift of later life. Most autoimmune treatment acts peripherally, suppressing effector cells after tolerance has already failed; restoring the selection step itself addresses the problem at its source. This is the platform's most technically demanding programme, the delivery challenge is unresolved rather than solved, and it is described as investigational throughout.
