Preventive & Diagnostic Screening
Finding disease in animals that hide it.
Department Family: Longevity & Preventive Medicine
Structured screening for owners who want disease identified before it is clinically apparent: imaging, laboratory panels, cardiac assessment, and cancer screening appropriate to breed and age.
Concealment of illness is normal animal behaviour, not an exception, and by the time most owners notice something is wrong the disease is established. Breed and age make much of this risk predictable enough to screen for rationally. The division's position is that screening is only worth doing where a finding would change management — a test that produces anxiety and no decision is not a service, and is declined rather than sold.
