Equine Medicine
Internal medicine for an animal whose economics change every clinical decision.
Department Family: Equine & Large Animal Medicine
Diagnosis and management of equine internal disease, including respiratory, gastrointestinal, metabolic, and infectious conditions.
Equine practice differs from small animal practice in a way that shapes everything: horses are large, difficult to hospitalise, and often economically significant, and the threshold for intervention is set as much by those realities as by the pathology. The division works to a referral standard with diagnostic capability normally available only at academic centres, sited where the horses are rather than requiring transport to them.
