Canine Longevity Programme
Healthspan in a species where the decline is compressed and observable.
Department Family: Longevity & Preventive Medicine
A structured programme for healthy adult and senior dogs combining measured baseline assessment, preventive screening, and investigational gene-directed intervention targeting the pathways associated with functional decline.
Dogs age through the same mechanisms as people and do it in a tenth of the time, in households that share human environments — which is why canine longevity research informs human ageing biology and not only the reverse. Assessment is functional and repeated: mobility, cognition, body composition, organ function, and activity measured objectively rather than reported at an annual visit.
The standard applied here is deliberately more conservative than for disease treatment, because these animals are not ill. Screening excludes on objective findings, the intervention is investigational, and owners are told that no intervention has been shown to extend lifespan in dogs.
